Meadowland Quilt

My latest quilt is this colorful Meadowland Quilt that was finished late November, but not blogged before now. The pattern is great to show off wonderful fabrics, I used twelve different ones plus a white background fabric with a subtle yellow design.

 

 I free-motion quilted it with a meander design using Aurifil Dove thread. Finished size is 48" x 64".

 

I found two fabric pieces in my stash which were pieced into an interesting backing. Maybe this would be more popular than the front? A striped binding in red and white was added as the icing on the cake.

This is my fourth charity quilt for the year 2025, and number 115 all time for the children's ward at the hospital.

Summer Scrap Bash Quilt

 My scrap bins are constantly overflowing, and this year I joined the Summer Scrap Bash 2025 to see if i could reduce them. I decided to cut scraps into 1.5" to make a scrappy log cabin quilt.

I dug through my scrap bins to find suitable scraps for kids since this quilt was going to be donated to the children's ward at my local hospital. There are novelty fabrics, different animals, cars and tractors, and lots of other interesting fabrics in the log cabins.

The placement of the 8.5" blocks (unfinished) are totally random, I only aimed for a very colorful quilt that will be suiltable for both boys and girls. 48 blocks ended up with the finished size of 48" x 64". 
 

A donated duvet cover made a perfect quilt back. The quilting ws done with the walking foot in a simple crosshatch design, using variegated Aurifil thread #3817 .

Photo session was done on a windy day with my apple tree in the background.

Orphan blocks

 

 Last fall I made the four blocks in the Soulalong hosted by @mija.handmade. In addition to Mija's block, the three other designers were @lovesewmodern, @prairiequiltco and @corinne.sovey .

The blocks were put aside since I didn't have a project to use them in. But this year I was in need to make a baby quilt since my niece was expecting a baby girl in Septemer. I framed the blocks with a multicolored fabric from my stash. The bolden twigs in the fabric celebrate the newborn girl.

 

The backing is filled with cute bear cubs. Crosshatch quilting two inches apart and a double layer of cotton batting gives the quilt extra volume. Quilt size before wash and dry cycle was 40".

 The last picture shows the quilt after a wash&dry cycle. It really gave the quilt an extra poof and a cuddly feel. The crosshatch quilting with Aurifil thread Dove fits the design well, and the icing on the cake is the binding Duck Dance from RJR Fabrics with lots of tiny ducks.

Spooky Sampler

 

Last year I participated in the Spooky Sampler quilt along where nine amazing quilters provided free blocks for the sampler. It was scheduled to be finished by Halloween 2023, but I was too busy at that time so I saved the patterns to make it for this year, instead.

The quilt was finished long time before the spooky season starts. It is a colorful and not so scary quilt. Each block is 15" square. I free motion quilted the blocks with a spiderweb design, using Aurifil thread 2600, Dove. The silvery thread thread mimics the spiderweb very well.

 

The backing is a fun print from Ikea from 2016. Binding is a multi colored stripey fabric bought at Hancock Fabrics more than 10 years ago. Finished size of the quilt is approx. 56" square.

The super cute (and spooky) quilt will be sent off to a little boy.

Jelly Roll Color Wash Quilt

 

This is the Jelly Roll Color Wash Quilt I made this spring, but didn't make a blog post until now. I had this great jelly roll from Island Batik that was perfect for this quilt. It reminds me of a beach sceneary.

It is a small throw size of 48" x 57". Silk batting from Hobbs Batting inside, which makes it light weight, yet warm.

I used an old Ikea piece I had in my stash for backing. 

Here's a detailed shot of the organic quilting using the walking foot and Aurifil 50wt Dove thread. The striped binding is the icing on the cake.

Spring Table Tunner

 Where I live there's still frost, ice and patches of snow, but during the day we get some warmth from the sun. I long for green grass and flowers in my garden!

I made this table runner which will be great for spring and easter. The tulips grow up from the sand and soil and bring colors to the surroundings.

The table runner is designed by the Norwegian designer Runa Kristiansen. I used fabrics from may stash, and used Aurifil threads for piecing and quilting. Finished size for the runner is 12" x 36".

The Missing U

 A new month and a new charity quilt. This time a very colorful one. I made my own version of The quilt The Missing U by Cheryl Arkinson from the book Sunday Morning Quilts, co-authored with Amanda Jean Nyberg.

 I took a deep dive in my scrap bins and made nine blocks of each color slab, the blocks finished at 12". Added narrow white sashing and dark blue corner stones.

The individual blocks were quilted with walking foot in matching Aurifil threads, and the sashing was hand quilted with big stitches in a white cotton crochet thread.

 The quilt finished at 38" square. Backing is a a cute Disney Princess fabric. Striped binding for the win!

Golden Zipper Pouch

This is my latest pouch made. It is relatively large, and the starting point is the Open Wide Pouch by Noodlehead.

I made the exterior using the Quilt As You Go method, using leftover fabrics in fall colors. The design is log cabin'ish.

 A little bit different design for the front and back. I used a yellow/golden zipper and the lining is a dark red solid. I added a homemade zipper charm made from crocheted Aurifil wool embroidery thread with a matching bead.

Portland Quilt

 My second quilt finish for 2023 is the Portland Quilt by Kate at @seaminglykate. This is a free pattern at her website.

 

 The quilt is a good lap size of 54" square. Fabrics are from the line Birchtree Lane from Connecting Threads, in addition to white solid in the sashing. All fabrics from my stash.

Pictures were taken on a cold winter day with my trustworthy quilt holder DH holding it up.

I had lots of fun free motion quilting with Aurifil thread.

 

 FMQ on my domestic sewing machine with a white loopy border in the sashing, and stars and loops in the print areas with a thread color blending in.

Solstice Sampler 2022

 This quilt is the result of a sew-along hosted by Amber of @alderwoodstudio. I started the first block in October and finished the quilt two days before New Years Eve.

 Nine designers made these wonderful blocks, it was a joy to make them.

The weather late December doesn't always cooperate for a photo shoot, but this day was just perfect!

The quilt consists of nine 18" blocks designed by awesome artists. I enjoyed making all the beautiful blocks.

With a size of 60" square the quilt will be a great addition to my home.

The backing complements the colors on the front.

Ballerina Star

 

 Meet my latest charity quilt, the Ballerina Star!

 

It started with the ballerina fabric to the left. Tiny ballerinas in colorful tutus dancing all over the stars. Not enough of this fabric made it necessary to add the  matching moon/stars fabric to the right. Sawtooth stars were made from these fabrics, there were enough for nine ballerina stars and six moon stars.

I added squares of a dusty purple speckled with tiny hearts to separate the stars. All fabrics were from my stash.
 

 I decided to do some all-over free motion quilting on this quilt, it was a great practice! I chose the design Mod Clamshell by Angela Walters. The quilting was done with Aurifil thread #3660 Bubblegum.

Strip Pieced Jewel Table Runner

 A new year and new projects. I am in a good stream of working my stash off, already. 

 

 This table runner is made from leftover stash from my two years as an ambassador for Island Batik. These batiks in earthy colors are playing well together with the neutral light stripes.

 

 These are the starting strip pieced blocks.

I also get to show off my new ironing board cover.

 

The resulting quilt top after some slicing and sewing, 12" x 36"
 

 Straight line quilting in the light stripes using white Aurifil thread gives a minimalistic design.
