Happy Mail

I was the lucky winner of the Constellate Quilt Kit in a giveaway hosted by Sharon Holland, and the kit arrived in the mail a few days ago.

The  fabric from The Denim Studio by Art Gallery Fabrics is of an excellent quality, and I am looking forward to make this lap quilt. Most likely it will end up in my son's new apartment.

I am showing off a pre-blogging item according to Val's Quilting Studio, it is not quilt related since the start of my quilting and blogging phase coincided.

 This is a cross stitch bell pull that I probably made in junior high or thereabouts. I loved to work with cross stitch and embroidery at that time, now quilting has taken over most of my spare moments.

Quilt in the Rain

My latest quilt was finished a few days ago, and yesterday was destined for the big photo shoot. Unfortunately it started raining when we started walking, but since the photo location was very close to home we made a go for it after all.

My quilt holder (aka husband) was sporty enough to accompany me in the ordeal. I brought a plastic cover to protect the quilt and camera in between photos.

This is a charity quilt I made for the children's ward at my local hospital. The fabrics are suited for a relatively small child, so the size of the quilt is approximately 42" x 52" after washing and drying.

We had fun on our walk in the rain looking for good photo locations. The fall colors make a perfect backdrop.

This is a gorgeous tree.

Some semi-man made locations, too. Here you can see the water droplets on the camera lens, it was raining quite a lot.

We also walked by an electric power supply plant.

Since this quilt is going to a sick child, I used a raspberry fabric from Ikea as the backing. The detailed fabrics in the simple patchwork front together with the cheery back ought to be able to keep the mind off the illness for a while.

Here is a detailed picture of one of the panel blocks. I quilted it with a simple crosshatch across the blocks.

This completes my 13th charity quilt for the hospital.

2016 Aurifil September block

Here is my version of the Aurifil block for September, Into the Blue designed by Katarina Roccella. It is perfectly acceptable with a few fall leaves for decoration.

Long neglected blog...

My blog has been sadly neglected the last few months. I will try to change that and write blog posts more regularly.

In my last post I promised to show off my Modern HST Sampler blocks. These are the 17 blocks that are published so far. Thanks to Alyce of Blossom Heart Quilts for organizing this skill building QAL.

I am using an aqua/grey solid together with the full range of Good Neighbors fabric by Amanda Jean Nyberg of Crazy Mom Quilts. Only seven more blocks to make!

With all the more or less complicated blocks I am making this year, I just needed a simple patchwork project to "relax" with. I have a few fabric bundles I will make charity quilts with, and here is one of them. This one contained a few panels, so I just cut  6 1/2" squares and will sew the blocks together to make a quick charity quilt.

The fall is so pretty now: this is a picture taken by my son. Look at those yellow and green leaves against the blue concrete wall; I love the colors of September!

Blocks, Blocks and More Blocks

This is the year for blocks, and I have joined 4 different "BOMs" with a bigger or lesser workload.

 

The Splendid Sampler comes out with free blocks  twice a week, and when we are finished we will have made 100 6 1/2" blocks unfinished. Above are blocks 30 - 37, in a wide range from simple piecing, intricate embroidery, applique, curved piecing and English Paper Piecing. We get to practice a lot of techniques!

The 2016 Aurifil Designer of the Month June block is Modern Delft II by Jacquelynne Steves. She designed two different versions of the block, where #1 had stitchery in the center block as well as in the four white corner blocks. I chose to make the alternative version of this 12 1/2" unfinished block.

Maybe I will prepare the stitchery project to bring with me on summer vacation, since I won't have access to a sewing machine.

The June block in the Sugar Block Club is Maple Stack, a modern version of the classic Maple Leaf block. I love the boldness of these blocks, and for this particular one I am very pleased with the blueberry fabric! These blocks are the same size as the Aurifil blocks.

I am also making blocks for my Modern HST Sampler, but that will be shown in a separate post. Enough blocks for now...
