2016 Aurifil Quilt Completed!

Finally my sampler quilt from the 2016 Aurifil Designer of the Month is finished. It was taken out for the photo shoot in the snow. During the shoot is started with sleet/rain, and this can actually be seen if you click on the picture to enlarge it.

I chose to make my version in blues, just like the 12 designers did.

Even the back is blue solid, but I had to add a stripe of Ikea Britten Nummer to get the back wide enough.

For the block setting I was inspired by kupitis on Instagram, who used an 'offthegrid' setting from Amy Gibson's Quilt Block Cookbook. A weathered barn wall is the perfect place for a modern quilt!

This close-up shot shows all the details. I used light grey as the background color, and the colored stripes brighten up the otherwise cool palette. The quilting is done as 'organic waves' using my walking foot, and the scrappy binding consists of a rainbow of 7 different solids.

Today's photo shoot was a walk in nature close to my home. There are still farm houses and open areas around.

The wind was not cooperating on this picture.

I used a light steel blue thread for the quilting.

Finally an inside picture showing off the binding colors.

This is my second finish of the 2017 Finish-A-Long. Original goal list can be found here.

Keep on quilting!
