AGF Sewcialite Sampler

Six weeks in early 2024 was used to make this gorgeous sampler. Ten designers were responsible for two blocks each, in inverse colors. I used fabrics from my stash for both front and back of the quilt.

Finished size is 54" x 67". Quilted with wavy horizontal lines. A pieced colorful backing from my stash adds extra color to the quilt.

Keep on quilting!

Modern HST Sampler Quilt

In January 2016 I joined the Modern HST Sampler QAL hosted by Alyce of Blossom Heart Quilts. By the end of that year all 24 blocks were made. I used the fabric line Good Neighbors by Crazy Mom Quilts in the quilt, all 36 different fabrics, with solid light grey as background.

The blocks were put aside because I didn't feel the quilt top was big enough. Later I discovered a great idea by a fellow Instagrammer to add a double, scrappy row of 2.5" squares all way round the  top, using leftover fabric from the line. The final stitches in the top were sewn September 2020.

The finished top was then nicely folded and put aside in favor of other pressing projects.

In spring this year my quilt guild announced a UFO lottery, and I entered with my Modern HST Sampler quilt. I had to piece a backing, quilt it and sew the binding on, and it had to be finished within the September guild meeting this week.

I managed as you can see!

The backing fabric wasn't wide enough, but by adding 5" strips of leftover fabric it became an interesting backing. I splurged and used wool batting because it will be my own personal quilt!

I quilted it with FMQ in a flame design, inspired by Christina of @afewscraps. The wool batting shows off the quilting in a very nice way, and as a bonus the quilt is extra warm. And the icing on the cake is striped binding for the win!

Now I can cross off another finished project with this great quilt of 54" x 80"! Just more than 7.5 years in the making...

Keep on quilting!

Mini Plaid-ish Quilt

When Erica of Kitchen Table Quilting announced the Mini Plaid-ish QAL I just had to join. In 2020 I made the original Plaid-ish quilt (an adjusted size) in red tones .

This time I chose a more colorful scheme.

Outdoor pictures are always the best, and the uprooted tree is a trusted quilt holder. Finished quilt is 50" x 64".

A colorful quilt in contrast with a fairy tale tree. This tree is still alive, even though there's not much soil underneath.

I pieced the backing from three different fabrics. The elephant/monkey piece is very fitting since the quilt will be donated as a charity quilt to the children's ward at my local hospital.

Look at all those gorgeous colors! The binding is also scrappy.

In making a plaid-ish quilt it is very important to sort the fabrics by value, light, medium and dark. The best way to check this is to take black/white pictures, because sometimes bright colors may have a pretty light value, if you compare the two last pictures.

This is my ninth charity quilt for the year 2023, and number 101 all time for the children's ward at the hospital.

Keep on quilting!

Elroy Quilt

Earlier this year I was lucky to be chosen for pattern testing of the Elroy Quilt by Megan of Modern Moon Quilt Studio. I chose to make only four blocks which is perfect for a baby quilt. The simple reason for this was that my nephew and his wife were expecting a baby boy. Now the baby is here and I have sent the quilt to the new owner.

The pattern is a modern geometric design. I used batiks from Island Batik for the front. I love the bright and bold colors!

I quilted it with FMQ in a flame design on my domestic sewing machine using variegated Aurifil thread in color #4652.

The backing is a fun print with birds and leaves, called Birchtree Lane from Connecting Threads. It is a great fabric for the baby boy to focus on when he gets a little bit older.

The quilt went through a wash/dryer cycle which made it nice and cuddly. Perfect for a newborn baby boy!

Keep quilting!

Portland Quilt

My second quilt finish for 2023 is the Portland Quilt by Kate at @seaminglykate. This is a free pattern at her website.

The quilt is a good lap size of 54" square. Fabrics are from the line Birchtree Lane from Connecting Threads, in addition to white solid in the sashing. All fabrics from my stash.

Pictures were taken on a cold winter day with my trustworthy quilt holder DH holding it up.

The pieced backing in green tones.

I had lots of fun free motion quilting with Aurifil thread.

FMQ on my domestic sewing machine with a white loopy border in the sashing, and stars and loops in the print areas with a thread color blending in.

The whole quilt laid out on my deck. Binding is a matching blue print.

This is my second charity quilt for the year 2023, and number 94 all time for the children's ward at the hospital.

Keep on quilting!

Solstice Sampler 2022

This quilt is the result of a sew-along hosted by Amber of @alderwoodstudio. I started the first block in October and finished the quilt two days before New Years Eve.

Nine designers made these wonderful blocks, it was a joy to make them.

The weather late December doesn't always cooperate for a photo shoot, but this day was just perfect!

The quilt consists of nine 18" blocks designed by awesome artists. I enjoyed making all the beautiful blocks.

With a size of 60" square the quilt will be a great addition to my home.

The backing complements the colors on the front.

A closer look of the quilt on my porch.

An indoor picture of the quilt shows the organic quilting I made using Aurifil thread in white #2021.

I mostly used fabrics from Island Batik for the quilt.

This was a very pleasant quilt-along with a great-looking result!

Modern Plus in Fall

About one year ago I made a Modern Plus quilt . That was such a fun project that I had to make another one this year.

This year's quilt is more in fall colors than the last one. I used the tutorial by Jeni Baker of  'In Color Order'.

The finished quilt is 48" x 64". The design is a great way to use scraps and stash.

This is my thirteenth charity quilt for the year 2021, and number 77 all time for the children's ward at the hospital.

Keep on quilting!

Joyful Meadows

My first finish of the year is this beautiful baby quilt. At the end of last year I learned that some friends of mine were expecting their third baby. I have made quilts for their first two kids, so naturally I had to make another one for their latest.

I was lucky enough to win this Joyful Meadows pattern by Happy Cloud Creations at the right time I was searching for a pattern. The pattern comes in five different sizes, from Baby to King. I made the baby size of 48" x 48".

The finished quilt was taken out in the forest for a photo shoot. I we were lucky that sun gave us beautiful photo light after the snow showers.

I used my (almost never ending) stash of Birchtree Lane fabrics from Connecting Threads for this quilt, with solid white for background. These are the prints I chose, the feather print is my absolute favorite.

The pattern is very well written, and the quilt top came together quickly .

I quilted it on my domestic machine with loops and swirls in white thread. The quilt got a great texture. The pine was a good quilt holder.

My first finish for the year looks good in the winter snow.

Keep on quilting!

Modern Plus Quilt

This is my last charity quilt for the year, and probably also for a long period of time. I need a break to focus on my own things.

It is a colorful quilt for a teenager, and it measures 48" x 64"

The Modern Plus Quilt is a super design for using up scraps or leftovers from other projects. I used a tutorial from the blog In Color Order .

 A great stash buster!

I wanted to show off a detail of the quilt's upper right corner. This is an example of the fun fabrics in this quilt.

This is my charity quilt number 20 for the year 2020, and number 64 all time for the children's ward at the hospital.

Picnic Pinwheels Quilt

While tidying up my sewing room a couple of months ago, I found a paper copy of the Picnic Pinwheels Quilt pattern designed by Chelsea of Patch the Giraffe. I immediately knew this design would look fabulous in bright batiks. After finishing up other projects, I started making these brilliant blocks.

I used batiks I had purchased from Connecting Threads a few years back. A snow  white background makes the pinwheels sparkle!

A fun print from Ikea a few years back was used for the backing. Warm and White cotton batting together with a cross hatch quilting design using an ivory colored thread, makes a stunning quilt. A striped binding is the icing on the cake!

The quilt measures approximately 40" x 51" at this stage.

I was a little concerned about the bright colors of the batiks, so off it went in the washer and dryer. The color catchers absorbed only a small amount of excess color, and I love that the white is still sparkle bright. Nothing beats a fresh, newly washed and dried quilt. That yummy texture!

WaffleCone Quilt

Outdoor pictures of quilts are always the best, natural light shows off the colors in a perfect manner. The mystical forest is one of my favorite places.

My #WaffleConeQuilt is displayed by my favorite quilt holder in the forest; the uprooted tree, aka the Troll!

It is amazing that this tree is still alive, the roots have hardly any soil around them.

The quilting was done with the walking foot, evenly spaced straight lines.

The WaffleCone quilt is a free pattern from SuzyQuilts. My version turned out to be 50" x 62" after quilting.

This modern quilt with its bright colors and design would be great for one of the older kids in the children's ward at the hospital, the hospital is always in need of quilts for boys.

The back was pieced from three different fabrics.

This is my eleventh charity quilt for the year, and number 55 all time for the children's ward at the hospital.
