Spooky Sampler

Last year I participated in the Spooky Sampler quilt along where nine amazing quilters provided free blocks for the sampler. It was scheduled to be finished by Halloween 2023, but I was too busy at that time so I saved the patterns to make it for this year, instead.

The quilt was finished long time before the spooky season starts. It is a colorful and not so scary quilt. Each block is 15" square. I free motion quilted the blocks with a spiderweb design, using Aurifil thread 2600, Dove. The silvery thread thread mimics the spiderweb very well.

The backing is a fun print from Ikea from 2016. Binding is a multi colored stripey fabric bought at Hancock Fabrics more than 10 years ago. Finished size of the quilt is approx. 56" square.

The super cute (and spooky) quilt will be sent off to a little boy.

Keep on quilting!

Halloween Pouch

Holloween is in a month's time, and those kind of projects are popping up all over Instagram. I have made two Halloween quilts in my early days as a quilter, Number 1Number 2 . Wow, it was actually 10 years ago!

I figured out it was time to make another Halloween timed project, this time a practical pouch. Noodlehead's Open Wide pouch is my go-to pattern. Focus fabric is from my stash, and the bottom is recycled denim.

The backside is a huge spiderweb!
I folded a strip of pumpkin fabric and sewed it in between the top and bottom fabric.

The lining fabric is black with orange dots, so appropriate! A fast and fun little project.

Halloween Quilt #2 finished

My DH and I took it with us on our Sunday walk in the forest. It was partly cloudy and the light was perfect.

The charity quilt is made for a boy, and the back reflects this.

Here is a detail picture taken inside, showing off the quilting and the multicolored orange binding.

Another detail picture.

I managed to finish it well in advance of Halloween, and it will be on its way to the hospital as soon as possible.

Quilting started

Just a quick post to show that I started quilting my latest Halloween Quilt.

The same design, though a bit bigger, in the attic window blocks. I'm doing both free motion quilting and using my walking foot.

I will be occupied a few more afternoon/evenings after work on the quilting, and then it will be time for the colorful binding.

Halloween quilt top finished

I finished the top of my second Halloween quilt snd took it outside for a picture on my porch wall. This was in-between some heavy rain showers, and the partially wet fence and pretty heavy wind made the top to sort of glue itself to the wood.

I wondered a while what kind of fabric I should use for the outer border. On the original pattern from Red Rooster Fabric, which is called 'The Quilt Shop', there were small flowers on the border. But, I wanted this charity quilt to be suitable for a boy, so I used some camouflage fabric instead. When it is quilted I will put on a multicolored orange striped binding to brighten up the edge.

The way the quilt top is hanging the top stars (six of them) over the roof are not shown. Below I added one of them (sorry about the piece of lint on the fabric). I made them all with spiderweb fabric. I think that fits the quilt perfectly. Now I have to figure out what to use for the backing fabric.

I linked this to Amy's Creative Side to show that I completed what I planned to do.

Second Halloween Quilt coming along

This attic window will be the center in my second Charity Halloween Quilt. I enjoy making this one. Have to work hard to be able to finish it before October.

Finally finished!

It didn't really take that long to make this quilt, just about 3 and a half week from start to finish. But it was a lot more work than I had expected, I am a little tired of Halloween fabrics right now. The resulting quilt is good-looking, though!

This will be a charity quilt for children at my local hospital. The size of the quilt is approx. 42" x 52". The design is 'Simply Spooky 2' by Red Rooster Fabrics. The quilt has a pieced backing, with leftover Halloween fabrics.

I added some of my own fabric from stash for the front, and I had bought the border fabric with a zillion black cats in the US.

This is a bright and colorful quilt that will be popular among children, it has got all the appropriate ingredients for a Spooky Celebration! I even completed it in good time before Halloween!

The back is ready

The quilting is done, so now I have to cut the binding and sew it on. I only show the back of the quilt now, because the poor cats won't show their faces before they get eyes sewed on. (One of the kittens is not ashamed, though).
I hope the quilt will be completely finished in a day or two, and then it will be properly displayed!
