This Year's Last Bee Block(s)

This year I have very much enjoyed being a part of one of the BeeHive groups organized by Alyce of Blossom Heart Quilts. Our group, the Beehiveinterquiltinentials, with members from three continents have had a fun time making blocks for each other.

My month was September, and I received a bunch of blocks as decribed in this post . I will have to make a few more blocks to make a decent size quilt, but I haven't had the time to do it yet. My problem is that I committed to way too many projects and BOMs during the year. My first priority for 2017 is to complete this quilt.

For the month of December, Ileana chose the Wanta Fanta block in off white and dusty blue tones, florals or geometric prints. I had several prints of the right colors, so I went straight to work and made her block. When I had made one, I couldn't stop, and had to make another one. Below you can see the two blocks.

I know that Ileana is going to assemble these blocks into a beautiful quilt!

Keep on quilting!

Progress on the Bee Hive Blocks

These are the blocks I have received from the members of my Bee Hive the last month. 12 beautiful houndstooth blocks are on display, but one is missing: Mary was not able to assemble her second block due to a hand injury, so she sent me the pieces. Unfortunately I have not had the time to complete that block.

My own two sample blocks are added to the bottom of this picture. I will show more detailed pictures later when the quilt is being assembled. Still waiting for a few more blocks, and then I will make some more to make it a good lap size.

I am enjoying being a member of this interquiltinential Bee Hive group, getting to know and appreciate the craftswomanship of the other members. This is a truly enjoyable project!

Double Stars for Katrin

As this month's Queen Bee, Katrin chose the Double Star block. The colors she chose were among others citron, mustard yellow, bright orange, with the occasional accent of aqua thrown in.

The blocks were received by our Queen  Bee yesterday, so it is perfectly OK for me to reveal them now.

I went hunting in my stash, and I couldn't stop with just one block, I had to make two.

The first block has some cute daisies in the center on a light blue background. Well, it isn't completely aqua, but close enough. The center of the flowers, though, match the yellow and orange of the star, perfectly, if you ask me. The neutral blender livens up the block, and the off white solid calms everything down.

For the second block I found an interesting charm block from Kate Spain (Cuzco) with lots of aqua in it, and with a nice design. The yellow of the star is mixed with black, so it turns out looking dark mustard. The dark blue looks even darker on the photo than in real life. The neutral in this block is a Cotton + Steel print.

Katrin is pleased with the blocks, and she is looking forward to receiving blocks from the 10 other members of the Bee Hive. I think she will make a gorgeous quilt in the end!

Keep on quilting!

One Beehive and Two Splendid Sampler Blocks

This is my second BeeHive block, 12 1/2" square. This month's Queen Bee, Maja has received it and I can show it off in all its glory. I showed you the backside of a quarter of the block in this post, and above you can see the complete one. Maja was pleased, and I am looking forward to seeing her complete quilt with time.

I have also completed two more Splendid Sampler blocks, the first one is Wings by Jane Davidson. Remember that these blocks are only 6 1/2" square, so that's a lot of tiny pieces!

The other Splendid Sampler block is Lots of Love by Melissa Corry. This one took quite a long time to make, but the heart block ended up looking good!

All my Splendid Sampler blocks are made from scraps, that's a very good thing!

Enough blocks today, now I have to get back to hand quilting!

Keep on quilting!

It's all about Blocks

2016 seems to be a block-making year. I have joined: one Quilting Bee with participants from 4 different continents, 3 (maybe 4) QALs, and I am also going to make a row or two from the Moda All-Stars All in a Row book.

This is the third block in the Modern HST Sampler hosted by Blossom Heart Quilts. The block is called Lantern, and with the fabric I chose, it makes me long for spring!

For the quilting bee I made a Wanta Fanta block for Maja, this month's Queen Bee. The above picture shows the backside of my very first foundation paper pieced block! The technique is so fun, and I want to do it more often!

Maja wanted blocks in pink print with a greyish background. Being the mother of two boys,  I don't have a very big selection of pink prints, but I did my best.  I can not show the front of the complete block, yet, since it has to be a surprise until she receives it.

Keep on quilting!
