Pinwheel Pincushion

Pincushion Parade.

I felt like making a super cute, summery pincushion as a little project in-between. The pincushion is made from 12 charm squares or 2.5" squares. Mine is made totally from scraps.

Project Quilting 11.6

The last challenge for Project Quilting this season is Vibrant & Vivacious; use bright colors in wild combinations. Thanks to Trish of QuiltChicken and Kim of Persimon Dreams for organizing this fun challenge.

My project is a little round pincushion. I am "killing two birds with one stone" with this one, it is done as a testing of a pattern for Happy Sew Lucky in addition to an entry in the Project Quilting challenge.

The pattern 'Round Pin Cushion' gives instructions for pin cushions 3", 4" and 5" in diameter. I chose the smallest one, and in the Whirligig design. That required foundation paper piecing, one of my favorites.

With this small size I could use my tiniest, bright Island Batik scraps.

The sides of the pincushion was made with a bright yellow batik. This pincushion will have difficulties hiding in my sewing room!

It was a little bit fiddly attaching the sides to the top due to the small size I decided to make. The next one will definitely be a bit bigger.

As always, the patterns from Happy Sew Lucky are well written.

Batik Pincushion

Due to a much needed house maintenance I have been without access to my sewing machine for a couple of weeks. I have been itching to CREATE! Finally, yesterday I was able to make this cute, little pincushion from a tutorial by PolkaDotChair. My embroidery scissors fits perfectly in the pocket.

The pincushion is is made from scraps of Island Batik stash builder rolls.

The color scheme is perfect for the season, and the fussy cut center of the churn dash block is the icing on the cake.

I used a green leafy batik for the back of the pincushion.

Keep on creating!

Super Cute Pincushions

My first post in 2017 is a cute one; on New Year's Eve I discovered a Pincushion SewAlong on Instagram. This is hosted by @zeriano and Sew Illustrated. The patterns were free until January 1st, so I hurried to download them.

Each pincushion is 3" x 3" inches finished. I am mostly using scraps of Liberty prints.

I just had to make this as the first one. The orange batik cat is a tribute to my late cat. He passed away two years ago at the mature age of 16 1/2 years.

The second one us appliquéd using two Liberty prints, and I used both machine and hand stitching.

These tiny projects are so cute and rewarding, I am using up the smallest scraps I have. For the back of the pincushions I am using my smallest floral prints.

In this bowl there is room for several more, just stay tuned to my blog!

Happy sewing!

One Little Birdie Pincushion

Last night I made a Little Birdie Pincushion from this tutorial by Deonn Stott from Quiltscapes.

It was really fast to make, and I enjoyed making it. I see lots of little birdies in the future!
