Building a Village

Moda Fabrics has released their Moda Village pattern as a free PDF download to reach out and connect with our community - each other.

This is a perfect pattern for scraps, a real scrap buster! I have raided my scrap bins and found pieces of fabrics that I didn't even know I had. i hardly ever throw away leftover scraps, so this pattern is perfect for me. The above blocks were leftovers from this previous project. It is good to use up the rest!

My village is growing by the day, right now the count is up to 30 houses. The pattern calls for 132 house blocks, but I will probably make a somewhat smaller quilt suitable for charity.

The search for more scraps is continuing!

The Flying Blanket

On a windy afternoon this quilt tried to make a take-off, but didn't quite make it. I am happy I managed to catch the motion!

I made this charity quilt from a stack of 5.5" flannel squares in earth tones. The flannel makes the quilt feel extra warm and cozy.

The finished size is 45" x 55". The quilt is backed with flannel, and the quilting is done with walking foot in a wavy cross hatch pattern.

This is my seventh charity quilt for the year, and number 51 all time for the children's ward at the hospital.

Colorful Drawstring Bag

Just before Easter and there was still snow on the ground. I needed some color in my life and decided to make a drawstring bag from a tutorial by Erica Arndt. I used a mini charm pack of Vintage Picnic fabric by Bonnie and Camille for the patchwork panel and various florals for the rest of the bag.

A yellow ribbon acts as a great drawstring and is perfect for an Easter bag. The little birds bring promise of spring.
