Winter Park that I received in July.
With a collection called Winter Park and having the blog hop in January, where is the perfect getaway location? Five minutes walk from my home! I live next door to a forest filled with paths and cross country skiing tracks. The forest is where I pick blueberries and raspberries in the summer, and lots of people are walking their dogs here all year around. In winter with good snow conditions there are plenty of skiers lining up in the cross country tracks.
The Winter Park bundle I received consisted of 22 half yard cuts of this beautiful cool palette.
When I received the bundle back in July, I knew exactly which quilt I was going to make. I have had the Churning Fourteen pattern by Hunter's Design Studio for a while now, and immediately knew that this was perfect for my Winter Park bundle. The pattern is originally designed for 14 fat quarters, but having 22 different fabrics at my disposal gave me even more freedom.

This is the construction of the smallest blocks, 3.5" finished.

The different sized churn dash blocks. With so many different fabrics I managed to get a good variation in color combinations of the blocks.
I laid out all the pieces on the floor and puzzled them into a pleasant layout.
The resulting top (without borders) using all 22 fabrics of my bundle. I love the cool winter colors!
I added two narrow borders to my quilt, the inner one is the neutral Sprinkles and the outer is solid grey. The day I put the borders on it was snowing in the morning (Sprinkles looks like tiny snowflakes), and in the afternoon we had heavy rain that made all the snow disappear and it became completely grey outside. The binding is solid black, which represents winter nights.
This adds up to a total of 25 different fabrics in my quilt top. I used Hobbs Heirloom Cotton Batting with Scrim Binder in the quilt sandwich, and used Aurifil thread for the quilting, five different colors and two different weights. I quilted meandering, "organic" lines across the quilt. I feel this complements the modern feel of the quilt.
The photo shoot was done in freezing weather of -10 degrees C (14 degrees F). Both the quilt holder and myself were almost freezing our fingers off!
A polar low pressure system dumped loads of snow the day before the pictures were taken, and brought the temperature down. Perfect for a Winter Park quilt! The only slight downside is that the pictures turn a little blueish.
