Ballerina Star

Meet my latest charity quilt, the Ballerina Star!

It started with the ballerina fabric to the left. Tiny ballerinas in colorful tutus dancing all over the stars. Not enough of this fabric made it necessary to add the  matching moon/stars fabric to the right. Sawtooth stars were made from these fabrics, there were enough for nine ballerina stars and six moon stars.

I added squares of a dusty purple speckled with tiny hearts to separate the stars. All fabrics were from my stash.

I decided to do some all-over free motion quilting on this quilt, it was a great practice! I chose the design Mod Clamshell by Angela Walters. The quilting was done with Aurifil thread #3660 Bubblegum.

Here's another detailed picture of the quilting.

The finished quilt laid out on my deck. Finished size is 40" x 48", this will be a great quilt for a little girl.

This is my third charity quilt for the year 2022, and number 82 all time for the children's ward at the hospital.

Keep on quilting!

Twister Table Topper

I have had the Lil' Twister ruler in my drawers for a long time without using it. Now I needed a new table topper for my living room, and that was a great chance to use the ruler.

I jumped in with both my feet using quilt math to get the twister part the right size for my project.

Here's a progress picture of the process. Starting with making a patchwork piece consisting of 5" squares with a light border around. Using the ruler to cut out the pieces and assembling them in the correct order and sewing the rows together.

As you can see the project shrinks a lot, the resulting Twister piece is approx. 67% of the original patchwork piece.

I was able to cut 153 bonus 2.5" squares from the leftover fabric, and as you can see there were only slivers left after cutting.

After putting borders around the Twister piece I did free motion quilting in each pinwheel. I also did some hand quilting where the contrast between pinwheel/border fabric wasn't strong enough.

The resulting table topper laid out on my deck in natural light.

153 Lil' Twister pinwheels, finished size of the entire quilt is 39" x 63"

Keep on quilting!
