Work in Progress - Wednesday
I needed to make a quick gift, and what is better than making a table runner ?! Here is the start of it, one of three stars. I have all the bits and pieces cut out, and some parts assembled.
All the fabrics are from Connecting Threads, I love their Clearance section! It won't take long to assemble the rest, and I am in a bit of a hurry; I need to make another one, too!

Quilt Doodle BOM 2015
Hey, Christmas is over! Yes, I know, but isn't this a cute Christmas tree? This one of two January blocks of the Quilt Doodle BOM for 2015; My Favorite things. If you click on the picture you can see more details, like the green tree fabric with glitter on, and all those cute (button) ornaments.
I showed the snowman before, but he deserves to be in the post together with the tree, also. Look at those cute plaid buttons on his belly! And the nose is really orange like a carrot! I am happy about the background fabric, also; you can almost feel the snow drifting.
Let's hope there is not snow in February's block, because I have enough of it outside my door!

2014 Aurifil Quilt Completed - January ALYoF goal
The 12 blocks of the 2014 Aurifil Designer of the Month are now assembled to a quilt together with 8 grey blocks, some of these with a little winter design. It is quilted with wavy lines using the walking foot; a lot less time consuming than my Modern Maple.
My January goal for A Lovely Year of Finishes is thereby accomplished with this quilt.
I did the photo shoot on a little playground close to my home. A clear winter day helps showing off the blocks of the 12 different designers. I used the same block setting as I did for my 2013 Aurifil quilt. This year I didn't have a clear color scheme, though: this is a scrappy quilt; I just grabbed the fabrics I felt was right each month when the design was published.
The quilt measures 51" x 65" before wash; a good sized quilt for a teenager. The quilt will be donated to the children's ward at my local hospital next month. This completes my 8th charity quilt for the hospital. I hope the quilt will bring good comfort to a child/teenager that needs it.
This is also my first finish in the 2015 Finish-Along for the first quarter of the year.

Keep on quilting!

Work In Progress (WIP) Wednesday
It has been a long time since last blog post, with a good reason. Last weekend I attended a 16 hour class of bag-making. During the weekend I managed to complete a very good looking and practical carry-on bag, perfect to bring with me on a plane. I will write a separate post on this bag after I am able to take good pictures of it in daylight during the weekend.
Last week I finished the quilting on my 8th (I think) charity quilt. this is one of the 2014 Aurifil blocks that the quilt consists of. Together with 8 grey blocks, this gets to be a good sized quilt for older children at the hospital. The quilt is now finished, and the binding is sewn on. Pictures will be taken in the weekend, since it is getting dark when I come home from work, still. I hope spring will come soon with good light!
I started making these small bow tie blocks last week, it is a free design called QM Bitty Blocks. featured in Quiltmaker's blog. These are free quilt block patterns monthly during 2015. What is good about this BOM, is that you are supposed to use only scraps to make a lap size quilt, and who doesn't have lots of scraps?
The last thing I will talk about in this post is a fun appliqué project, this is the first of two January blocks. The design is from Quilt Doodle Doodles, and the project will run throughout the year.
Keep on quilting!

2015 FAL - Q1 UFOs I want to complete
I have joined the 2015 FAL over at Adrianne at On the Windy Side. Here is the list of the UFOs I wish to complete during the first quarter:
The first project is a quilt that will consist of 12 BOM blocks from the 2014 Aurifil designer of the year, hosted by Pat Sloan. I am adding 8 extra blocks to make a 4 x 5 block setting; a good size for a charity quilt for the children's ward at my local hospital.
The second project is a free pattern/project called Hip-Hopscotch, that I found over at Quiltmaker's blog. The top is done, and it just needs to be quilted and finished.
The third project is a fabric kit I won in a giveaway at Forth Worth Fabric Studio last year. I just need to add some white fabric and make it into a nice lap size quilt.

First finish in January
I was really supposed to work on my ALYoF goal in the beginning of January, but then DS2 got a new laptop and figured out he needed a laptop sleeve before returning to college. I relized it was necessary to make one for DS1, also. That way I suddenly had two laptop sleeves to make, and that in a fairly short time.
I used a design by Elizabeth Hartman for a simple laptop sleeve, one that I tried out in my entry for the Rush Hour blog hop in 2014. The formula makes it easy to fit the sleeve to any size laptop.
I used home decor weight fabric for the outside, to make the sleeve sturdy. I used cotton batting for protection.
The quilting is straight lines using the walking foot.
The laptop sleeve has a simple velcro closure. The laptop fit in the sleeve like a hand in a glove, just perfect.
The green sleeve has a solid dark grey cotton for lining, and the other one has a blue print fabric inside.
Both guys were happy for their New Year's gift, and the sleeves will be used every day to class. It is always a good feeling to make an item that will be cherished and used regularly!

ALYoF 2015: January Goal
Another year of A Lovely Year of Finishes has started, and may 2015 be even better than 2014. I joined the ALYoF last year, and I managed to complete 5 of my goals. Now I am starting early in January, and for this year I hope to fulfill at least 6 of my monthly goals for 2015.
I am starting out with a set of 12 BOM blocks that I completed one of the last days in December. Since 2012 I have joined the Aurifil Designer of the Month BOM, and this will be my third quilt in this series.
There are 12 blocks I pieced during last year. Each block is 12" square when finished. I plan to use some extra blocks to make it into a 4 x 5 block setting. This will be a charity quilt for the children's ward at my local hospital. They are in great need for quilts for the older children in the ward, and this will be a good sized quilt.
I wish all my fellow bloggers a Happy New Year!
