Winter in the Southwestern US
On Christmas Morning we woke up to rain. The weather forecast had warned us of a blizzard, so we did not plan to go anywhere. During the day the temperature dropped and the rain created a glazed surface everywhere. Later, it started snowing, but not in the amount we were warned about. Anyway, a little snow in this area paralyzes the traffic, and there were reports of multiple car crashes and pile-ups on the highways. This picture shows the amount of snow that came down, and it is not much compared to what I am used to in Norway during the winter.
DH and I tried to take a walk in the neighborhood last night, but that was a treacherous experience. It was very slippery, and it is only thanks to the good winter boots I brought with me from home that I was able to stay on my feet. I think this day is also going to be an indoor day, it is freezing cold out there. This will be a good day for sewing!

Easy Street Part 5 is done
Today I finished all of my 64 sitting turkeys. Here they are in stacks of 4.
I really enjoy this mystery, and I am looking forward to the next step. Bonnie said that we are done with the turquoise fabric, so I wonder which fabrics will be used in the next step.
I have tried to play along with the blocks we have made this far to get alternative solutions to the Easy Street mystery. I have not been able to use all the blocks yet, but here are a few suggestions:
Alternative 1.
Alternative 2.
Alternative 3.
Alternative 4.
My alternatives are just small blocks, I do not have a specific idea of the final design. Time will show as we go further on; I am looking forward to the final result!
The progress of the other participants can be found here . MERRY CHRISTMAS!

My biggest quilt completed!
I finished sewing the binding on the quilt for DS1 last night. Today I took it out in the poor winter daylight for a photo shoot in the forest.
The quilt is twin-size, 70" x 90", and is the biggest one I have made so far. Hopefully it will keep DS1 warm for a long time.
The design is inspired by Radio Way by Jaybird Quilts. I chose to make a scrappy version of it, most of the fabrics are strips of recycled shirts. I used grey yardage for the contrasting color. The backing is made from a duvet cover, and the binding is a solid darker grey.
The quilting is simple, I used the walking foot and quilted straight lines parallel to the stripes, approximately 2" apart.
I often use the forest close to my home for photo shoots. Today was a very windy and cold day. The wind was desperately trying to ruin my photo session, but I managed to get a few OK pictures.
Thankfully, the snow was very dry and fine-grained, so it was very easy to shake it off the quilt when I got home.

Binding has started
In October I started making this quilt posted here . It is twin-size and made almost completely of strips of recycled shirts.
As you can see, the process of binding has started. The quilt is 70" x 90". and it requires a long binding. This is the biggest quilt I have made so far. DS1 is the recipient.
I am planning to hand sew the binding on the back starting tonight. Hopefully I will show pictures of the completed quilt during the weekend. I want to finish it as soon as possible so I can start on Easy Street Part 4 tomorrow.

Progress on Easy Street and BIMB Row Along
I have had a very productive weekend, and it is not even over yet!
The two first parts of Easy Street are completed, and Row#8 in Bee In My Bonnet Row Along is also done.
Easy Street: 128 flying geese and 192 4-patches
BIMB: All the 8 rows on my porch in poor winter daylight
BIMB: Left part of row#8
BIMB: Right part of row#8
The rest of the day will be dedicated to basting a twin sized quilt for my son, and maybe I will be able to just start on Part 3 of Bonnie's Mystery.

One Christmas gift finished
In October I attended a class with Mrs Moen on the technique 'Layer upon layer', or 'Painting with fibre'. I am sorry to say that I have not completed any of the projects I started there. But, today I got the inspiration to try the technique on a design of my own. I needed to make a Christmas gift to a friend in Sweden, and it needs to be posted the coming weekend to reach her before Christmas Eve. Then I just had to sit down and get creative, and a mini quilt of approx. 6.5" x 8" is the result. It is a small wall hanging, and I am pretty pleased with the result.
No daylight available for picture taking, so my lamps would have to do. First the one without flash:

I have started Easy Street
Yesterday I finally decided to start on Bonnie Hunter's Mystery Quilt this year; Easy Street. This far I have made 70 4-patches and 8 flying geese. I do this in-between assembling a twin-sized quilt for my son. It will be a little back-and-forth between these projects.
For Easy Street I am using a grey "Christmas fabric" I bought last year on sale, it does not have very much design in it. I also got a some black and white Dr. Seuss fabric on sale. I still have a lot of 4-patches and geese to make.
This is a fun project to have joined, and it is my first Mystery. I look forward to the coming steps! Now I have to work on my other quilt project.
