Hexie Tote for Spring

During the last few months I have taken a hand-sewing project with me to quilt guild meetings. I have only sewn on this English Paper Piecing hexagon project during these meetings.

These 2 inch hexies are made from leftover strips of fabric. I didn't have a specific plan when I started, but when five were done I decided to make a spring bag out of them. I appliqued the hexies on linen and started looking for a bag pattern. I chose a tutorial from Jedi Craft Girl, and modified it a little bit.

I made the top section a little taller to fit the hexie panel, and the bottom chambray section a little shorter. I echoed the hexie lines in the quilting.

The lining fabric is a fun Pear fabric from Ikea, it is a very fitting spring green. I added pockets on both sides of the tote, the blue fabric of the pockets is Birchtree Lane by Connecting Threads. I used Dark blue denim for the handles.

I took a walk in the nearby forest for the photo shoot. We still have a lot of snow and it is very cold. I hope the sun will bring out the spring soon, I sure have the right tote ready for the season!

Keep on quilting!

  2. A lot of thought went into that tote. It turned out fabulous too. No more snow in Berlin. I hope it stays that way. =)
